Pencil and ink on paper
This work is part of a series titled "In and Out" that constitutes a site-specific installation of 12 drawings on paper. The mixed media technique of the work includes pencils, charcoal, and colored inks; the fading effects are obtained through different kinds of solvents, used on both sides of the paper support.
In this series of works, I started from the idea that people and the reality they belong to are both complex products of self and hetero-relationships: that is, identity and reality arise from self and others' interactions, which unfold across both private and public dimensions. Since people and their realities are shaped by both internal dynamics and social interactions, the boundary between private and public spaces becomes a key site where identity is formed and negotiated.
In this drawing I mark the connection between internal space (the private, the personal) and external space (the public, the political) by overlapping their boundaries and constructing a single landscape, and then focusing on the female figure as the main character of this delicate balance. I exacerbated the research around Subject and Object by overlapping the internal and external spaces in an inextricable tangle and transforming the support material itself into a battlefield of this confrontation by drawing on both sides of the sheet.
